Why the profession of a of social worker is unique and satisfying?

The role of social workers has become more relevant in the world tackling oppression, inequality and injustice. Though there is another set of professionals, such as writers, journalists, campaigners, lawyers, politicians etc., who talk about ensuring social justice to the ones affected by injustice. Then what makes social workers unique?

If you want to pursue a diploma in social work and have the same question mentioned above, there are three main contributions that make social workers different from other professionals.

First, the profession is concerned with the ‘social’: to improve and establish social relations between people. Where doctors deal with diseases, teachers teach pupils, and lawyers stand against crime, social workers uniquely work to strengthen relationships between people collectively and individually. A teacher or counsellor may guide or counsel a child individually, but a social worker would visit a house, sit down and join other family members to help sort out the problems.

Second, a social worker doesn’t give up on people only because they do not fit in with the bureaucratic categories. They try to understand the cause of their problems and stick with trying to get the best for them.

Third, social workers are prepared and expected to intervene in social relations. Some years ago, people complained about early social workers interfering with other individuals’ life. But today, you cannot imagine treating an abused child, or a violent mentally ill person without intervening in their lives and seeking support from the family. In fact, it shows how useful the profession in which people are trained and prepared to have a go and help sort things out.

In this way, a social worker helps to maintain social fabric. That’s why most countries promote social work as a profession.

In Australia, social work is one of the cheapest courses for international students. The Australian government has been promoting social work for a very long time and has taken many initiatives to aware students and people about the social work profession.

The Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) defines that social work as a profession that facilitates social change, social cohesion and development, and the empowerment and liberation of people. Principles of human rights, social justice, collective responsibility and respect for diversity are central to social work.

Over the past few years, the number of international as well as native students studying social work in Australian universities has increased significantly. If you are looking to get into a social work course, there would be no place better than Australia.

To know more about the bridging visa Australia, different social work courses, institution or universities, you can contact our experts at AECC Global and lay the foundation for a successful career in Australia.
